Course Prerequisites

This course is ideal for students who have three to six months experience with Alteryx and would like to learn more advanced skills.

Take Before: We recommend that students have prior experience with the topics in the course below, or should have recently attended it as a pre-requisite:

NOTE: This Alteryx course is independent-format training that can be tuned and adjusted to best meet your needs. Our materials are flexible, comprehensive, and are always instructed by a senior instructor with a deep understanding of Alteryx and its most current features, benefits and functionality in a wide array of uses. This is not Official Alteryx Training.

Course Agenda

Lesson: Dynamically load Excel sheets

Lesson:  Output multiple .csv files at one time

Lesson: Append records from one dataset to all records in another

Lesson: Using the Join Multiple tool

Lesson: Generate formula expressions using string length and position

Lesson: Advanced parsing techniques

Lesson: Understanding Demographic and Segmentation datasets (students will need licensed access to the additional

Demographic Data Bundle)

Lesson: Utilizing Demographic reporting options

Lesson: Intermediate report design

Lesson: Advanced spatial analytics:

• Matching store and/or customer locations with demographic data
• Thematic mapping of Census block group level spatial data
• Working with segmentation data at the block group level
• Creating a non-overlap drivetime area

Lesson:  Using the Spatial Process tool options

• Combine objects
• Clip polygons
• Create intersection object
• Inverse intersection objects
• Obtaining spatial metadata

Lesson: Alteryx Scheduler configuration and use (client will need licensed access to the additional Desktop Automation Package, or the Alteryx Server)

Lesson: Using the In-Database Tools*

• Connect to Databases
• Filter and Select In-Database
• Apply Formulas In-Database
• Join and Union In-Database
• Summarize and Group In-Database
• Add external data to the In-Database workflow
• Create or update a table In-Database
• *In-Database training will require access to databases within your organization. Advanced preparation of materials and database connections for In-Database training is needed at least 2 weeks prior to training.

Optional: For Gallery Data Artisans: Create an Analytic App and save it to your Alteryx Gallery Private Studio (Data Artisans have advanced permission levels in order to create apps via Alteryx Designer and upload apps to the Gallery)

Lesson: Design Apps using the Interface Components

• Simple numeric and text entry
• Dynamic lists, trees, and check boxes
• Conditional actions
• Interactive maps
• Generating reports using Apps
• Chaining Apps

Optional: For Gallery Members: Utilize an existing Gallery Analytic App from your company’s Server Gallery

(Members can only utilize apps, and cannot design or upload apps to the Gallery)

Course Materials

Each student will receive a course Student Guide, complete with course notes, code samples, software tutorials, diagrams and related reference materials and links. Our courses also include detailed step by step hands-on lab instructions and project files (as necessary) and solutions, clearly illustrated for users to complete hands-on work in class, and to revisit to review or refresh skills at any time.  Students will also receive the course set up files, project files (if applicable) and solutions required for the hands-on work.
